Support Facilitation

The ESE Support Facilitator’s role is to assist students by keeping up an open line of communication with the students, parents and the teachers. This is done through touching base with the teachers in person, through classroom visits, via emails, etc. Support is provided by making sure teachers are aware of and understand the accommodations needed by students in order to access the curriculum which they are accountable for, being available to teachers if they want to discuss students and/or lessons and by collaborating with teachers to best meet needs of students. Students are aware of who their support facilitator is and how best to access her. Students are assisted in their mainstream classes through both internal and external support. Internal support is when the support facilitator is in the classes either co-teaching a lesson, providing assistance, etc. External support is when the student is working on material that has been accommodated by the support facilitator prior to the student coming to class. Additionally, teachers and students can set up small group or one-on-one assistance when needed for extra help or for extra time when testing. Throughout these first weeks of school, support facilitators have distributed accommodations for each student with an IEP and have attempted to meet with the assigned students, visited classrooms, checked on student progress, made herself available for student and teacher support. Grades and other indicators of learning are regularly checked. If paper and pencil testing, extended time for testing or other accommodations are needed, the support facilitator is available to assist.
